Center Pointe Spokane

Center Point Spokane! A center for smiles.  A center for care and support.  On Tuesday November 13th myself, Alec, and Eli had the distinct pleasure of leading the members of Center Pointe in a community art project.  Our goal was to give a lesson surounding the color wheel, and explore mixing dry pastel on 3x5 index cards.  Discuss how colors can mix, and how the color wheel provides the building block for all of the colors we see in the world around us.  Center Pointe is full of so many wonderful people.
We had a great level of participation! We began the project by handing out 3x5 index cards and giving the participants dry pastel.  We then proceeded to talk about mixing primary and secondary colors, as well as discussing how the colors we choose can have emotional impact.  We had some amazing results.  One participant in particular spread color down on the 3x5 card in such a way that it resembled some of the work of Mark Rothko.  We had previously set  up a matrix of 110 squares, with the idea that the 3x5 cards would be put together on the grid to form a sort of mosaic.  Some participants focused on using only a few colors consistently, others used every color they could find.  It was so wonderful to see people being intentional about the colors they chose to use on their cards.  We had many different results,  some insisted on drawing pictures, and others came up with some interesting geometric patterns.  In the end, our mosaic felt a lot like the spirit of center point.  Wonderfully unique, made up of very distinct individuals, all who come together with their differences and experiences to make something beautiful.
