Aaron Richard Bocook’s Eviolence is a throwback to 80’s style
cyberpunk with its darkened and brooding gasmask overtone with a subtle hint at
rebellion with inverted crosses on the eye slots. The piece is constructed of
found art, mixed media and is spray painted to fit the mood; the colours are
seemingly basic but convey the emotions heavily. The black and white base sets
up the mask to come off as mysterious, yet inviting and the red brings the
angst and rebellion emotion home as a perfect closer.
Being an outward and
proud fan of all things cyberpunk this piece instantly brought me in and made
itself stand out amongst the other artwork which consisted of post-modern
pieces with some self-expression pieces thrown in between. Eviolence stood out and made itself known on the showroom floor,
with its traces of rebellion and the message stating: “How is evil to be
measured? By numbers? Our interpretation of symbols? There are no universal
symbols of evil, only our encultured values.”
