Spokane River Studio Tour

On September 29, a beautiful Saturday in Spokane, I attended the Little Spokane River Artists’ Studio Tour, with a friend.  The setting was the Little Spokane River, home to several local artists, some quirky, others eccentric, but who all create fantastic works of art.
The art ranged from watercolors to delicate pottery.  My friend, a former art teacher, knew many of the artists which was fortunate as I got to meet them and talk to them about their art and their experience creating pieces of artwork.
More of Jill Smith's
One artist, Jill Smith, makes exquisite mugs and decorative plates out of clay.  My friend introduced me to her and she is very charismatic about her work.  Since she has been a potter for many years, she is now teaching other people how to make pottery.  Jill’s works are unbelievably crafted by hand and her use of color and design is out-of-this-world!

I truly love art that is daring, appealing to the eye, and inspiring.  While we were touring Bridgeman Studios, I came across and took some time pondering at a couple of watercolor paintings that were really vibrant in colors and had nice, visible brushstrokes.  The forms and contrasts were absolutely exquisite.  These paintings are created by Clancie Pleasants, another artist I had the pleasure of meeting.  Her works are truly wonders to the eye and very fun!   They seriously took my breath away.

I thoroughly enjoyed this artists’ studio tour.  I love going from place to place, not knowing what to expect next.  Every artist was very unique and different in their own way.  This was a great way for me to get involved in my community of Spokane.  In what ways do you like to get involved with the community?

  1. WOW! This looks like such a fun exhibit! I love how diverse the work displayed was. My favorite photo was of the paintings by Clancie Pleasants, her use of color and shapes is exquisite! I could also use some clay mugs now that the cold is arriving! Great post Gracie :)

  2. Grace- sounds like a lot of fun. I really like the eclectic mix of pieces you described. The bold faces of the subjects contrast really well to the use of softer watercolor paint in the Pleasant painting photographs you took. Its great to see all the different forms of art the tour has to offer. I also admire that you get involved in the community through art, i hope I'll get more acquainted with Spokane through art as well!
