James
Kuhn’s Digital Print named Untitled was found in the classy downtown Spokane
Art Show, Terrain 5. As I walked around the displays throughout the building,
piece caught my eye for a few reasons. This first is that I am very passionate
about designing with computer graphics, so naturally, I could relate to the
print. What I think makes this piece of art work very well is the use of lines
that create a focal point that draws your eye down to the pink zeros in the
lower half. There is also a good use of contrasting colors that equally draws
your attention to the subject. However the print didn't really capture my interest until
I read the artist’s explanation of his work. His description reads:
“these few works explore mark making and use of materials in
both digital and traditional mediums. I enjoy the ease of access technology has
granted contemporary society and how it has further blurred the line between
low brow and high brow art.”
I think this is a really cool idea of how technology has
made art more accessible, allowing the artist to have an easier time with the
form and be able to spend more time on the conceptual side of art. So I would
ask, would you say that the blurring between high and low brow art is a
positive thing or a negative thing?
I like your choice. This does scream computer graphics designer! The pink form towards the bottom of this piece reminds me of a baby pacifier. Good post!
ReplyDeleteThis piece freaked me out at first, the pink loops jumped or looked like they moved when your eye moves around the print. The effect was awesome and it makes me wonder the process of the printing this. You now make me wonder how technology really has effected the printmaking scene. Great observations!
